Dolly Parton's Imagination Library for the School District of Omro
About the Program
Dolly Parton's Imagination Library (DPIL) is a research based program where a non profit entity in a community takes the responsibility for raising the funds necessary to provide a free book a month for children birth to age 5. There are only two criteria for receiving books - the child must reside in the service area and they must be under the age of 5. The Omro Area Community Center has taken on the task of fundraising and maintaining the program for the children of the Omro School District. The program is complementary to the goal of the Omro School District, where they are striving to achieve a 100% graduation rate. Studies have shown a direct correlation between children who participate in the DPIL and school readiness. "Children growing up in homes with many books get 3 years more schooling than children from bookless home, independent of their parents' education, occupation, and class" according to studies such as M.D.R. Evans et al. Read more at: /uploads/5/6/2/0/5620688/research_1_.pdf . |
